The Loungefly brand was created in 1998 in a small warehouse in Chatsworth, California by Trevor Schultz. From the beginning of Loungefly, Trevor Schultz, its founder, obtained licenses from Disney, Sanrio and Nickelodeon and created accessories associated with these licenses including the famous backpacks. In 2017 Funko bought the Loungefly brand and widely expanded the choice of products, backpacks and wallets, notably with characters from Star Wars, Harry Potter, Warner Bros. However, Disney characters are still favored by Loungefly.
